Personal Life Update-Musicals and School!

August 25, 2017

Hello friends!  I admit I’ve been a bit absent on here due to some life situations/commitments that have taken most of my time.  But don’t worry!  My photography is still a HUGE part of my life and something that I’m working on everyday.  I thought it was time to fill you in on some of our life updates so you can understand the step away for a few weeks!

I love musicals.  LOVE them.  I’m so blessed that I get to direct shows as a part of my job and it’s honestly probably my favorite part of my job.  In an attempt to do more directing, I partnered up with a local theatre academy based in Gurnee, IL.

Standing Ovation Theatre Academy came into my life 5 years ago.  I decided I wanted to get back on the stage and actually perform in a musical again.  I auditioned for their community production of “The Wizard of Oz” and was cast as Glinda!  Super exciting (and terrifying…I hadn’t been on stage for years.).  It was a blast!!  I got to know some of the other key players in the organization, and they offered me the opportunity to music direct the next show.   They are primarily a children’s theatre company, which speaks to my teacher-heart.  They focus on empowering and encouraging young people to pursue their dreams and help give them the skills to confidently get on that stage and perform.  I knew it was going to be a good fit!  Fast forward to the present, 7 shows later and we’re still going strong.

Two weeks ago, Standing Ovation presented their community production of Beauty and the Beast.  I was the music director and stage manager, which kept me super busy for a week.  The show was AMAZING and we’re gearing up for our next adventure, Elf Jr.!

I officially have entered my 9th year teaching!  We started school the Monday immediately after Beauty and the Beast (talk about a quick turn around!).  With the start of school, life gets a lot hectic trying to get into the swing of things.  But now my classroom is ready, music is picked and things are settling in as we round out our second week.  I’m looking forward to a productive year with some amazing kids!

So to wrap up, yes, I’ve been a bit quiet, but now I’m ready to ramp up my efforts and you’ll be seeing a lot more of me!  Thanks for being patient and your support!
